BCG Knowledge Navigator is BCG’s cutting edge gateway to knowledge. It is a next-gen platform that transforms the way BCGers search, share, and create knowledge. With over 1.9M visits per year, it seamlessly connects any search query to the most relevant results. KN is a streamlined, well-designed, content-rich, and connected search experience allows for more advanced data aggregation on knowledge (content and people) consumption and distribution, and ultimately drives higher user satisfaction, more frequent user adoption, and other ROIs.

Project Responsibilities

This internal searching engine was a collaborative effort between BCG and BCGDV, and spanned across three major phases of work. I was one of the experience designers for the last phase called "Porta" which focused on enhancing the experience of searching on Knowledge Navigator by designing further intuitive and smarter interfaces that contribute to feedback loops. We built upon a strong foundation that has been set up under the previous two phases. On this team, I conducted numbers of interviews to understand user frictions and worked on the UX to enhance the searching experience.

Our Project Achievements

The knowledge experience was designed to be lean and iterative so that we learn as we scale. We’ve uncovered new market insights, doubled down on existing ones, and built on the foundation set by preceding ventures, in order for us to further understand the big opportunities at hand. The goal to achieve is to optimize for a future of omni-channel search. Our intention is to help move us from a siloed search experience, to a more intelligent one, accessible everywhere, anytime.

Ideation Process

1.With this concept in mind, we used a rigorous process to identify new ideas to inform the evolution of Smart Search and Link

2. We synthesized all previous research by clustering themes into things “we know”, “assume” and “needed to explore”

3. We ran interviews where we first had a discussion and then shadowed real users behaviors

4. We clustered both our interview findings and relevant past research to unearth themes for ideation

5. We identified 3 key user barriers to achieve users goals with Smart Search

6. We ran ideation sessions to unearth ideas across the search journey and user profile experience
